Summer & 4th of July

Florida summer means heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms -- but it also means water parks are at their absolute best. Walt Disney World's Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, plus Universal's Volcano Bay, offer world-class water park experiences.
The key to a great Orlando summer trip is building water park days into your plan. Alternating between theme parks and water parks prevents heat exhaustion and keeps everyone energized. Most locals follow the pattern: theme park morning, pool/water park afternoon.
Disney's Water Park add-on to theme park tickets is an excellent value, giving you access to both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Volcano Bay requires separate admission but is included in many Universal multi-day ticket packages.
Plan Ahead
Typhoon Lagoon: massive wave pool, lazy river, family raft rides, and Miss Adventure Falls
Blizzard Beach: Summit Plummet (120-foot free-fall slide), ski-lift ride to the top, family areas
Volcano Bay: TapuTapu wearable for virtual lines, Krakatau aqua coaster, and the volcano water slide
Daily afternoon thunderstorms (usually 2-5 PM, clearing quickly)
Florida heat index regularly exceeding 100F in July and August
Water parks can reach capacity on weekends -- arrive at opening
All parks offer rental lockers, towels, and shaded cabana areas
Insider Tips
Arrive at water park opening (usually 10 AM) -- the first two hours have the shortest waits and coolest temperatures
Rent a cabana or premium shaded spot if available -- the shade is worth every dollar in July and August
Apply reef-safe waterproof sunscreen every 90 minutes -- the Florida sun is intense even on cloudy days
Bring water shoes -- the pavement between slides gets extremely hot
Lightning closes all water attractions -- check the weather radar and plan your big rides before afternoon storms roll in
