Winter & New Year

January through March is peak season in the Caribbean and Mexico for good reason -- the weather is warm and dry (75-85F), the ocean is calm, and the contrast with winter back home makes every moment feel luxurious.
This is the most popular (and most expensive) time for all-inclusive resorts, but the experience justifies it. Sandals and Beaches in the Caribbean, Hyatt Ziva and Zilara in Cancun and Los Cabos, Experiencias Xcaret in the Riviera Maya, Royalton across Mexico and Jamaica, Iberostar Selection properties, and Riu resorts all run at full capacity with every amenity operational.
For the best value during peak season, book 6-12 months in advance and watch for early-booking promotions. Your travel advisor can often access rates, room upgrades, and resort credits not available on the resort websites -- especially with Hyatt Inclusive Collection, Royalton, and Iberostar.
Plan Ahead
Peak Caribbean and Mexico weather (75-85F, low humidity, minimal rain)
Calm ocean conditions ideal for snorkeling and water sports
All resort amenities, restaurants, and entertainment fully operational
Higher rates than shoulder season (but the weather is worth it)
Full entertainment programming and themed nights
Best availability for premium room categories (swim-up suites, oceanfront) when booked early
Peak season crowds -- popular restaurants require reservations at some properties
Insider Tips
Book 6-12 months in advance for the best room selection and early-booking discounts
Mid-January through mid-February offers slightly lower rates than Christmas/New Year's week
For Mexico: Hyatt Ziva Cancun (families), Hyatt Zilara (adults-only), Xcaret (nature/culture), Royalton (value), Iberostar Selection (European-style service)
For Caribbean: Beaches Turks & Caicos (families), Sandals (couples), Riu (value in Jamaica/DR)
Work with a travel advisor for access to exclusive rates and complimentary upgrades not available online
Consider travel insurance -- winter weather at home can cause flight delays and cancellations
